How far is from here to there?
Objective: students will measure distance on a map.
Procedure:
1. Look at the map. Choose two places on the map/
2. Write the name of one of the places in the point A column of the data table. write the name of the other place in the B column.
3. Use a ruler. Measure the distance from Point a to Point B that you chose. You must measure ONLY along roads on the map. You may choose to measure several distances and add them.
4. Use a scale on your map. Multiply your measurement by the scale factor to find the real distance. (Ask parents for help or use a calculator).
5. Write the distance in your data table.
