How can you model landforms?

Objective: Students will use modeling clay to make a three-dimensional model based on a topographic map.

Material: modeling clay in several colors

Procedure:

1. Look at the topographic map. Notice the curves and the labels showing the heights of each area.

 2. Write the heights in your notebook. Beside each height write the height of the modeling clay you will use to represent it. (E.g. to show 100 meters you will use 1 centimeter of clay)

3. Place modeling clay on top of each area of the Topographic map Sheet. Use a different color for each height. Make a chart that shows which color modeling clay you used for each height.
